Greta Thuneberg, a 16-year-old activist rejected a climate award presented to her Oct. 30 by the Nordic Council.
Thunberg is known for her climate activism and rose fame when she sat outside of Swedish parliament in 2018 on a school strike against climate change.
Every year the Nordic Council awards one person with The Nordic Council Environmental Prize, which includes not only an award but over $51,000.
This year Thuneberg won, but decided to decline the prize.
“The Climate Movement does not need any more awards,” Thuneberg said in an Instagram post. “ What we need is for our politicians and people in power to start to listen to the current best available science”.
