DaBaby, a somewhat new rapper came up quickly, within the past year. His song SUGE blew up and made his name known. All of DaBaby’s songs have the same feeling; they’re all very upbeat and he usually raps about the same things, himself, his family and how he lives his life.
DaBaby’s biggest songs besides SUGE are Goin Baby and Baby (Lil baby feat. DaBaby). He does a lot of collaboration work with many different rappers and producers on the song Baby (Lil Baby feat. DaBaby) he works with Quality Control, an experienced rap producer who has also worked with The Migos, Travis Scott and other famous rappers. Lil Baby and DaBaby both came into the rap game around the same time and are both, in my opinion, in their primes. DaBaby has made seven albums, one in 2016, two in 2017, two in 2018 and two in 2019. His biggest album and most recent one, KIRK, set the bar for modern rap. Especially when it comes to the beats, the lyrics are okay, he always seems to rap about the same things.
The features on Kirk are great. DaBaby brought on Kevin Gates on the song POP STAR, Chance The Rapper, Gucci Mane and YK Osiris on GOSPEL. All the features he put on his album don’t necessarily match his style of rap, which makes the album diverse and adds to the amount of people who would be interested in it.
KIRK sold 147,000 units within a week of its release. It’s obvious the album is a crazy hit and got the attention of a large number of people. The album also hit number one on Billboard 200, Oct. 5.
My favorite song on the album is OFF THE RIP, I feel it stands out more than the other songs. The flow in the song is so simple yet so catchy it’s just one of those songs you can’t help but bop your head too. All of the songs on the album are great and that makes it difficult to pick the worst of the bunch. I’d have to say PROLLY HEARD is the worst because its beat just doesn’t reach the same level as all the other ones.
All songs on KIRK are amazing and they will be remembered for a long time for the impact they have and will have on the rap community. DaBaby is still new to the fame and will hopefully only get better at what he does and change the rap game and community for the better. He raps over modern beats and includes lyrics about his past which helps some people relate to him. Most people are drawn to stories and he tells the story of his life, maybe that’s why so many people like his music.
