WandaVision is taking a tubular turn for the strange.
Disney+ released Episode 5 of WandaVision Feb. 5. Josh Stamberg, Julian Hilliard, Jett Klyne, Baylen Bielitz and Gavin Borders guest star and Evan Peters makes an appearance.
There will be spoilers ahead, so you’ve been warned.
Last week, we took somewhat of a break from the whiplash of switching decades every episode and saw what was happening outside of Westview. Turns out Westview doesn’t exist and the citizens are all missing people stuck in the anomaly. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) discovered Wanda’s (Elizabeth Olsen) broadcast as S.W.O.R.D. (Sentient Weapons Observation Response Division) investigates the seemingly nonexistent town of Westview.
This week, back in Westview, Wanda and Vision (Paul Bettany) are at their wits’ end, caring for their twin boys, Billy and Tommy (Hilliard and Klyne respectively). Meanwhile, Captain Monica Rambeau (Parris) is getting reoriented with life on the outside after being shot out of Westview as S.W.O.R.D. continues to investigate.
The premise that Wanda created the whole town of Westview and has its citizens under her control also gives me some predictions as to who the series’ villain could be. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but my guess is that Wanda will be the ultimate villain. This is a move I’ve kind of been waiting for Marvel to make. When you have a character as powerful as Wanda who’s been through as much as Wanda has, eventually, they’re going to snap. My guess is that Westview is Wanda snapping.
I can also see Vision becoming much more aware of everything. Up until this point, he’d been acting quite human, even though he is a super bot. At first, I thought he was playing along and that this was set before the events of Infinity War and Endgame, but episode 4 changed things entirely. Vision didn’t blip, he died. Without the Mind Stone, he shouldn’t be up and walking around, and here we are.
One thing I didn’t like that’s been the same as every other episode is where it ended. Pietro’s back, Wanda’s marriage is rocky and S.W.O.R.D.’s investigation into Westview just got even tougher now that Wanda knows they’re onto her.
Now that I have a clearer picture into where the series is going, I still can’t wait to see where Marvel takes things next. Though the series is hard to get into at first, I definitely recommend it.
