I see dead people…
…which really means mind-controlled people.
Episode 6 of the Disney+ original series WandaVision streamed Feb. 12. Joining the regular cast was Evan Peters, Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne.
There will be spoilers ahead, so read at your own risk.
Last week was full of surprises. Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) are at their wits’ end caring for their twin boys, Vision starts to suspect that not everything is as it seems and before the credits roll, Pietro Maximoff (Peters) is at the door. Meanwhile, Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), FBI Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) and astrophysicist Dr. Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings) investigated Westview from the outside.
This week turned everything upside down. It’s Halloween and with Wanda and Vision’s relationship shaky, it’s up to fun Uncle Pietro (Peters) to step in. However, Pietro doesn’t seem to be affected by whatever mind meld Wanda’s put up over the people of Westview.
Pietro being back is one of the most interesting developments in the series I’ve seen so far. That’s saying something, considering how many twists the show has taken since the pilot episode. He doesn’t seem to be affected by Wanda’s powers, which gives me a few theories as to where the series is going to go next. At this point in the game, I can’t see Marvel introducing any other heroes who could step in and save Westview, nor can I see how they could be written into the plot without any repercussions. Pietro being the Jiminy Cricket of sorts to Wanda is something the series definitely needed, but I’m looking forward to seeing where it could go.
The whole idea of someone talking sense into Wanda rather than someone overpowering Wanda (which would be next to impossible) brings in two other candidates. Billy and Tommy (Hilliard and Klyne respectively) both developed powers, with Billy’s bearing an uncanny resemblance to Wanda’s. Ultimately, I don’t want to make any guesses as to what will happen next with all the twists and turns the series is taking.
The few things I would change are albeit nitpicky; I prefer Aaron Taylor Johnson’s Pietro to Evan Peters’, but Peters is still a good Pietro reboot. The costumes are also extremely cringey–Vision’s Mexican wrestler outfit is just painful to look at, but at the same time, I couldn’t look away. Wanda’s outfit felt way too revealing for her whole family-friendly sitcom vibe.
Ultimately, I was right in assuming that Episode 1 was a smoke-and-mirrors act to divert from the action-packed series. Again, I would change the release of new episodes because this one left me wanting so much more. If you haven’t been able to get into the series, then stick with it for a bit. I definitely recommend it.
