Georgia Senate runoff
Georgia Democrats Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff unseated U.S. Senators Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in the Georgia run-off election Jan. 5 securing Senate control for the Democratic Party.
Results were finalized for both candidates Jan. 6 with Warnock ahead with 50.9 percent of the vote and Ossoff ahead with 50.5 percent of the vote. While the number of both Republican and Democratic Senators remains 50 for each party, Vice President-elect will be the tiebreaker for any split votes. These wins have put New York Senator Chuck Schumer in line to assume the position of Senate Majority Leader in place of Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell Jr.
