DECA impacts community

DECA is a marketing club that focuses on preparing students to become successful business professionals and successful members of the community, while also giving back to the people of Puyallup.
Meetings for DECA take place the last Wednesday of each month.
Meetings inform students on activities taking place throughout the month. Only students currently enrolled in marketing classes can join DECA.
DECA is holding mock competitions against Rogers High School and Emerald Ridge High School in the month of October to prepare for state competitions in January and March. This year DECA is sponsoring the Ronald McDonald House Charities, doing a tooth brush drive to donate to people in need.
The Puyallup City Council has declared November Puyallup School District DECA month.
DECA adviser and marketing teacher Kimberlie Root advises students at the espresso bar and student store.
“DECA used to stand for Distributive Education Clubs of America but this acronym has become outdated. Now DECA is the symbol of marketing classes around the country. My favorite experience [in DECA] is traveling to competitions with students,” Root said.
