Kiuchi, 400 freestyle relay team still alive in water heading to next round at State

Finals and consolation rounds for girls swim continue today with several Vikings still afloat at State.

Kacey Kiuchi swam in two individual events yesterday. In the 100 backstroke, Kiuchi had the fifth best time heading in to today’s finals  where she hopes to earn her second state medal in the event. She took third in state last year.

Kiuchi broke her own school record in the 200 individual medley.

Coach Messineo called her record a “crazy-fast time.”

This record, however, was not enough to get Kiuchi to the finals in this event. She had the ninth best time and will swim in the consolation finals with one more chance to lower her record.

The 400 freestyle relay team will swim in the final event of the meet in the consolation finals.

Other Vikings to note:

Gabi Dunayski swam in the 100 freestyle and Tabitha Messineo swam in the 100 breaststroke.

Both the 200 medley relay team and the 200 freestyle relay did not qualify for day two.
