Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 Provides Fan Service, Jump Scares, and More

V11 years since its first release, the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise thrives to this day, with its newest film Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 being no exception. But don’t expect to walk into this movie and slowly catch up with the plot. This movie cranks the volume to the max and steps on the gas with all sorts of easter eggs, familiar faces, and more.

When Blumhouse announced that the first film was getting released, most fans immediately jumped to the question of, “Will there be a franchise?” Then shortly after the release, Blumhouse quickly addressed the rumors and announced the second film would be released.

Blumhouse Productions took everything that was great with the first film in the franchise and made it even better. Director Jason Blum himself addressed the media that this film would be “scarier and have a darker plot.” With double the jump scares and screams. This movie proved its point very early in its one hour and 44-minute runtime. However, the strongest aspect of this film is the storyline behind it. Anyone who is even somewhat familiar with the plot throughout the games can easily get attached to this film with its constant drops of lore and outside easter eggs from games and books.

However, where this lore comes as a plus to those who are familiar with the games, for those who haven’t dipped their toes into the world of FNAF, this film may come off as confusing or a little underwhelming. With a movie that relies so much on this outside source material, it is recommended that you at least have somewhat of an understanding of the game and its details, more specifically the second game with it being the second film in the franchise.

Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 releases this Friday, Dec. 5 in theaters.
