Wicked: For Good is the wonderful conclusion to the Wicked storyline as it leads you through the lives of everyone in Oz! Overall, Wicked: For Good is a solid 4.5/5.
Wicked: For Good takes place one year after the events of its predecessor wicked, and you go through the wizard of oz storyline through the point of view of Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Galinda. You also see the events leading up to the wizard of oz, as you see Fiyero, Boq, and Nessa Rose’s life. You see the propaganda spread about Glinda the Good and The Wicked Witch of the West, and how deeply instilled it is all throughout Oz.
Even though this movie was a wonderful conclusion to the first act, there are some things that I found myself disliking from the film. Ariana Grande’s character Glinda didn’t have as many good songs as her co-stars. The songs Glinda was given fell flat compared to her iconic songs “Popular” and “No One Mourns the Wicked”. Another thing that I didn’t like was that the costume team decided it would be a good idea to give The Scarecrow hair. It just looked odd and frank; the scarecrow looked like Ryan Reynolds. In this adaptation they added two new songs for Elphaba and Glinda, Glinda’s song “Girl in The Bubble” felt pointless. It didn’t add any substance to the film, and it felt like it was only part of the movie for a chance to win the Oscar for Original songs.
All critiques aside, I loved the intensity that Ethan Slater brought to his role as Boq. He perfectly embodied the anger and heartbreak that Boq has from his experiences that we see throughout the film. Cynthia Erivo’s acting and singing was Phenomenal, and I personally believe that she carried this movie on her back along with Ethan Slater. The song “March of the Manhunter” shook me to my core. I truly felt the hate that the citizens of Oz felt for Elphaba. This song truly shows how the citizens of Oz deeply believe in the propaganda spread by Madame Morrible and the wizard.
This movie shook me and shook my core, and I truly believe this movie will change you for good. Wicked: For Good is in theatres now.
